Those were the words Liz Truini whined to her boyfriend Chris Ryan, as he drove her to an early morning Bluffs hike, on the Sunday before the 4th of July. Liz had just received a text from her sister in law, Gena, that she wasn't going to make it to the hike they had scheduled weeks ago. Annoyed, Liz wanted to scrap the morning and rest. Many of her family members were in town for the holiday weekend and she was exhausted from the previous day's excursions. Chris insisted that the walk would be nice and a little bit of fresh air was exactly what they needed. Reluctantly, Liz agreed to continue with the hiking plan as they headed up the trail at the Bluffs. Little did she know that she would walk up the hill with her boyfriend, but she would come back down with her fiance.
Chris, originally from Illinois, met New York native, Liz, when they were working at a Colorado 24 Hour Fitness location. Their love of fitness, family and fun brought them together and after 2 years of love and adventures together, Chris knew that Liz was the one with whom he wanted to spend the rest of his life.
Unbeknownst to Liz just a half hour earlier, her family had walked up the same hill, and they were all anxiously waiting for her to reach the top. A very nervous Chris tried to keep his composure during the walk, bringing up any and all small talk he could think of. He knew he would be looking for his hand painted sign when he got to the top. Together they were going to "discover" the sign and in that spot, Chris would ask Liz to marry him.
About 3/4 of the way down the East/West dog-leg, the couple discovered the sign (thankfully they had not discovered the cleverly hidden photographer, just off the trail to the North) and as planned, Chris dropped to his knee and asked Liz to be his bride. It didn't take long for Chris to ask and it didn't take long for Liz to say "YES!". Moments later she noticed the people at the far end of the trail were not just innocent hikers, they were her family! Liz and Chris hugged, laughed and kissed before they spotted the not-so-hidden photographer behind them then made their way to the end of the trail where the newly engaged couple and family enjoyed the gorgeous views, joyus celebration, and you guessed it, delicious bagels.
